A strike plate is a metal plate affixed to a door jamb or frame with a hole or holes for a latch or deadbolt to pass through. It is installed on the door jamb, and the latch or deadbolt is secured to the strike plate with screws. The strike plate reinforces the area around the latch or deadbolt so that the door can be securely closed.
