Types
– Internal cut key has rectangular blade with wavy groove
– Must be cut by special key cutting machines
– Transponder keys may also be called chip keys
– Transponder keys have signal-emitting circuits built inside
– Chip keys protect cars from theft by immobilizing engine if wrong key is used

Internal cut
– Internal-cut key has wavy groove cut up the center of the blade
– Blade has identical wavy groove on the back, making it symmetrical
– Must be cut by special key cutting machines
– Also known as sidewinder or laser cut key
– Works no matter which way it is inserted

Transponder
– Transponder keys have signal-emitting circuits built inside
– Cars computer transmits a radio signal to the transponder circuit
– Circuit responds by sending a coded signal back to the cars computer
– Chip keys are difficult to duplicate
